Moong Dal With Palak

A simple and innovative Moong dal with palak is a fat free, healthy and nutritious dal recipe.It is easy to make and very good for digestion. Moong dal with palak makes a great combination with plain rice and hot chapatis. It is one of my favourite dal recipe. Moong palak dal, Moong dal with palak, Palak moong dal are some of the names of this recipe.

Ingredients:

1 cup moong dal
2 cups spinach, chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 tomato, chopped
2 green chillies, slit lenghtwise
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
1/2 tsp lemon juice(adjust to your taste)
1/2 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
pinch of hing
1 tbsp oil
4 cups water

Method:

1: Wash moong dal changing water several times till water becomes clear. In a pressure cooker add moong dal, spinach, 2 cups of water and pressure cook upto 2-3 whistles.

2: Heat oil in pan, add cumin seeds, as they splutter add hing, turmeric powder, green chillies and stir fry for few seconds.

3: Add onions and saute for 3-4 minutes. Add tomatoes and saute for another 3 minutes. Then add pressure cooked moong dal, salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder and mix well. Adjust the consistency of dal to your desire taste, adding water as needed. (I added 2 cups of water.)

4: Cook on low to medium flame without lid for 15 minutes. Add lemon juice, garam masala and cook for another 2 minutes.


5: Serve hot with rice or chapatis.
